Young Adult Social Development
Facilitator: Karen McDowell
This group of older adolescences and young adults includes a nice mix of males and females and offers facilitation and support in all areas of social and emotional development. As they spend increasing amounts of time in larger community groups this work is essential to continued growth and happiness. Focus is upon navigating and understanding the social world and it’s sometimes novel and challenging demands. Typical age appropriate social scenarios and situations are explored in a safe and supportive group environment. Transfer of these areas of development into other networks is facilitated and encouraged. Goals are attacked through motivating, enticing, and cooperative activities that challenge thinking and interaction. Areas of development targeted include the fine art of making small talk, navigating relationships and dating, understanding and appreciating your unique strengths and areas of challenge, stepping into the shoes of another, improving processing and thinking abilities , and becoming assertive and effective problem solvers.
Ages 8-12 Facilitator: Nicole Bracero
Ages 12-18 Facilitator: Crystal Farr
We all grow to develop our own personality and social behavior. To be successful, we design programs from a child’s perspective, rather than that of an adult. As learning is experienced and emotionally based, all skills will be presented in a motivating format. Books, Videos, Role-Play, Social Stories, Visuals, Music and Creative Games will be used to target skills. The goal is to give the children the tools they need to be successful during spontaneous interactions when the environment is not predictable.
